KIDS DINE OUT: A Junior Connoisseur Series

at Fireside Tavern Sherborn for kids age 8-12 years old.

Join us for a 4-week interactive "Masterclass in Manners" designed to turn the next generation into confident, polite, and savvy diners. From the secret language of silverware to the art of ordering with confidence, we make "fine dining" feel like a blast.

Kids will be taught by our Owner, Chef & kitchen team, front of house staff and Director of Operations. They will get to see front and back of house operations as well as the art of setting and sitting at a table for 3 courses.

THE CURRICULUM

  • WEEK 1: The Table Map. Mastering the formal place setting and the "Lap Landing" napkin ritual. Learning the how, where, when why what of dining out. What happens when things go wrong (spills) and how to signal that they are "Finished" vs. "Just Resting" using their silverware positions. Mastering the 'Resting' and 'Finished' positions so your server knows exactly when you’re ready for the next course without you saying a word.

  • WEEK 2: Order Up! How to speak to staff, ask about the menu, allergies and the "Golden Rule" of eye contact. The importance of thanking the person who brings the water or clears the plate—not just the person who takes the order. Junior Connoisseurs will also get a 'backstage pass' to the kitchen to see how the Chef and the team prep for a busy service, learning that respect for the meal starts before it even hits the table.

  • WEEK 3: The Fork & Knife Challenge. Cutting tricky foods and the "Art of Conversation” and how to order when you don’t understand the menu, the item or have a food dislike or allergy. Specifically how to handle a food they don't like without making a "yuck" face. We call it "The Discreet Discard" (how to use a napkin if something is literally inedible). We will also add a lesson on 'Phone Etiquette'—why devices stay away and how to engage in real-world conversation without a screen

  • WEEK 4: The Graduation Presentation. A celebration where the kids show off their skills to their parents!
